Jazz fans and families will want to mark their calendars for a special jazz concert at Southern Village featuring vocalist, Yolanda Rabun with the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra on Thursday, August 15 at 7pm. Bring picnic baskets, lawn chairs, etc. The concert is sponsored by the Lee County Arts Council, Downtown Sanford, and the Heart of Carolina Jazz Society. In her established music career, Yolanda has shared stages with jazz and music icons, performing internationally as lead jazz singer with the Stanley Baird Group, with Clay Aiken throughout North Carolina, opening for Tony and Grammy winner, Jennifer Holiday, and working with the late Isaac Hayes for the former President Ronald Reagan. Yolanda has been a guest artist with orchestras, including the Free Spirits of Raleigh Symphony Orchestra and sang in festivals across the world. Yolanda also recently played such venues as The Atlanta Jazz Festival (Main Stage), the Beyu Caffé (Durham), The Artsplosure Festival (Raleigh), and Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint (Atlanta). A noted and award-winning actor, Yolanda has appeared with rave reviews in several NC Regional theatre productions including ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’, ‘Ragtime’, ‘Smokey Joe’s Café and Temple Theatre’s 2010 production of ‘Crowns’. Yolanda lists Burning Coal Theatre’s awardwinning production of Shakespeare’s’ ‘Twelfth Night’ as one of her favorite shows where Yolanda created and sang the original straight ahead jazz compositions for her role as “Feste”. Yolanda Rabun’s musical influences include Nancy Wilson, Gladys Knight, Dianne Reeves, and Nina Simone. Yolanda is the real deal and with an Honors Degree from Holy Cross College and JD from Boston College Law School, Yolanda, who is also an award winning corporate attorney, says “the Universe is the limit”.
