The Sounds of the Modern Jazz Quartet
The music to be performed in this concert will be music from the world-famous Modern Jazz Quartet performed by the Brandon Mitchell Jazz Quintet and big band music performed by the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra.
Originally from Washington DC, Brandon Mitchell is an active vibraphonist in the North Carolina music scene. After recently completing his master’s degree in jazz studies at North Carolina Central University and a bachelor of arts degree in percussion performance from Elon University, Mitchell has had the opportunity to perform all over the east coast including Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, to name a few. He has toured abroad to Italy several times including performances at the Jazzit Festival, Teatro Piccolo in Milan, and a Notte Bianca performance in front of the Duomo. He has also had the opportunity to perform next some of the greats including Branford Marsalis, Joey Calderazzo, Jon Metzger and John Fedchock.
