Vibist Jon Metzger has developed an international presence through extensive touring, recording, and lecturing. He has appeared throughout the United States and has lead his quartet on tours of Western Europe, the Near East, Northern and Sub-Saharan Africa, and Central America. He has recorded with Fred Hersch, Phil Markowitz, Marc Johnson, Harvie, Swartz, Joey Baron, Tony Martucci, Ted Moore, and Ronnie Wells among others. His latest recording as a leader is Into the Light (VSOP 67). Metzger has also dueled vibes with Lionel Hampton, performed with Gunther Shuller, and been featured in the Martin Williams Jazz Concert Series at the Kennedy Center. Jon has conducted masterclasses from Berklee College in Boston to the University of North Florida and has lectured at the Smithsonian Institution. He is endorsed by Selmer-Musser, the vibraphone manufacturer, and Grover Pro Percussion. Both companies subsidize his clinic appearances. His articles are published by Jazz Player Magazine and his works for percussion by C. Alan Publications. His method book, The Art and Languages of Jazz Vibes, is considered the standard in the industry. Metzger holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the North Carolina School of the Arts and is a featured artist of Elon ImproVibes recording label. A native of the Washington, D.C. area, he lives with his wife, Linda, and their bassett hound in Gibsonville, North Carolina. |
